Although this book contains text to present overviews of the pictured topics, it mostly contains photographs. The album does not extend to the modern tourism era, focusing on the barrier islands' way of life, its involvement in the Civil War, and its place in maritime studies. While I'm glad I read it, it was not all that helpful in preparation for a vacation there as it focused very little on things I'm likely to see. Local residents will appreciate it more.
