About the Author
Peggy Lipton was born Margaret Ann Lipton in New York City on August 30, 1946. She began modeling in her teens and studied acting with Uta Hagen. After her family moved to Los Angeles in 1964, Lipton moved out and lived as a hippie for a year. She made her television debut as a secretary on an show more episode of the sitcom Bewitched in 1965. She followed that with guest spots on several television series including Mr. Novak, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and The John Forsythe Show. Her film debut was in 1967 in Mosby's Marauders. She starred in the ABC police drama The Mod Squad from 1968 to 1973. She received a Golden Globe Award for her role. She was also pursuing a singing career and released her album, Peggy Lipton, in 1968. She married musician and producer Quincy Jones in 1974 and retired from acting, except for the television movie, The Return of Mod Squad, in 1979. The couple separated in 1986 and divorced in 1990. She appeared as Norma Jennings in the 1990-1991 television series Twin Peaks. She played the same character in Twin Peaks: The Return in 2017 and in the show's spinoffs including Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. She appeared in more than a dozen feature films including The Postman and A Dog's Purpose. Her memoir, Breathing Out, was published in 2005. She died on May 11, 2019 at the age of 72. Great book! It was a page burner for me & I finished over a weekend. Which is saying a lot because it's hard for a book/author to keep me interested!
