Photojournalists on War is a series of interviews and photos from 39 photojournalists who covered the American war in Iraq. The interviews are unvarnished, and as a result powerful. PJs discuss their frustration with the American public's lack of interest in the war as it passed its first few years, and they discuss the changing nature of journalism and news outlets in the past decade. PJs from other countries discuss their perspective on American citizens' war-weariness. And the role of the show more war photographer is described in realistic, haunting detail.

This is a very important book for anyone interested in American culture, photography, journalism or photojournalism. Or, modern warfare.

A truly unique book. Not just another picture book…..a side of the Iraq War you never saw.

If your definition of history includes overarching themes like war and peace, then this might be a book for you.

Hedges: I think most generations tend to learn the lesson of war the hard way. There is a deep attraction to the empowerment. Freud is right: societies either become locked in a collective embrace of Eros, as individuals do, or a collective embrace of Thanatos, the death instinct. They show more swing between the two. The notion that societies are naturally prone toward self-preservation is wrong. Self-annihilation can be deeply addictive, intoxicating, enticing. So I take a darker view of human nature --that war is probably always going to be with us. I think history bears me out.

It is a necessary book to see and read so as to understand why Americans are not seeing these pictures….

Also a necessary book to read so as to understand where your taxes are going.

I can read about 50% of it before giving up.
