- Short biography
- Frieda Lipperheide was married to Franz Lipperheide, who founded the publishing house that bore his name in Berlin in 1865. The company began publishing a fashion magazine, which Frieda later took over, and it was a success in Germany and abroad. The couple also amassed the world’s largest library and collection of graphic works on the history of clothing and fashion -- about 40,000 books and magazines from the 16th to the 19th centuries, as well as paintings, manuscripts, and about 100,000 drawings, prints and photographs -- which they donated to the Royal Museums in Berlin in 1899. It has been known as the Lipperheide Costume Library since 2006.
