Micere Githae Mugo (1942–2023)

A dramatisation of the trial of Kenyan revolutionary Dedan Kĩmathi, one which defiantly valorises him as a national hero while sharply critiquing (British) colonialism. An important witness to the politics of mid-century Kenya, and I liked the tendency for the Kenyan characters to speak in verse and the British ones in prose. Stylistically I'm not sure that it's aged well, though. It's a little, well, stage-y.

This play depicts the circumstances surrounding the trial of one of the leaders of the Mau Mau revolution, Dedan Kimathi.
