A father and son go to the park and ride a seesaw, go down a slide, and play hide-and-seek.

Wake me when it's over . . .

My daughter found this dull when she was four.

An aside: The father counts to ten as the boy hides. Is it a cheat in a phonics book to include all the numbers as digits instead of words? Some of them are not very phonic friendly, I guess.

I'm giving this tale of Sam the Turkey outwitting his greedy owner three stars because my boys made me read it twice while waiting in the pediatrician's office. However...



If you're going to illustrate a book about a turkey who wins BLUE ribbons, shouldn't you include BLUE in your color palette?
A pup and his father play baseball in the back yard. It goes well for the pup, less so for this bored reader. My daughter also gave a shrug to this when she was four.

Pup and Pop's day is just getting started when a little accident happens in the kitchen.

It's sort of fun to read all the "P" alliteration, but there's not much more to this phonics reader. My daughter wasn't fond of it when she was four, and she usually loved anything with dogs.
