Bubba is a bottlenose dolphin and he's swimming merrily in the ocean, when he suddenly hears a strange sound. Upon close inspection he discovers it's a whale. Ollie the orca is quite in distress, as he's trapped in a fishing net.
Bubba calls his friend Sammy, the seagull, for help and together they try and think of an idea to free Ollie.
Will the two friends succeed in their task and be able to help the whale to regain his freedom?

The illustrations by Mike show more Motz tie in beautifully with the story. Reading the book, children will learn, fishing nets can provide a danger to sealife. In this case, it's a mammal, the orca Ollie, who gets caught accidentally and often the animals can't free themselves or carry very bad injuries after breaking free from a net.
The book also comes with the message to help others in need and that working in a team can provide a solution to a problem, where we on our own are stuck.

Bubba is a very likeable character and children will immediately take to him and enjoy to follow him on his adventures.
Ollie the Orca is part of the Bubba'n'Buddies series by Laura Maw.

The book is both, fun and educational, and the characters are cleverly chosen by the author, as dolphins and orcas are both members of the cetaceans, which means they are relations after all. It's a book which parents will enjoy to read to their young ones and it leaves room for interesting discussions afterwards.
