Short biography
Isabella Nadolny, née Peltzer, was born in Munich, Germany, to an upper middle-class family. Her father Alexander Peltzer was a painter. When she was a teenager, the family fell into financial difficulties. She went to work in Berlin as a secretary in a government ministry. In 1941, she married Burkhard Nadolny, a writer, with whom she had a son. She started writing, originally for radio, and achieved success with her novels. She also became a successful translator of works from English into German, including Love Story by Erich Segal.
