This is a great book for someone that wants to learn more about the philosophy of yoga. They don't write a lot about asana, but their is one chapter on why you should practice asana and another one on how to sequence your practice that anyone interested in yoga would use. Their are other chapters on finding a guru, the yoga of sound, and how to practice non-violence (become vegetarian!). The authors founded a very successful studio in New York and their form of yoga is concerned with God show more devotion. My favorite aspect about this book was that I learned very simple definitions of most of the terms in yoga that I have been confused about. Some people might not enjoy the author's tone which is "there is one way to practice yoga and this is it" but if you can get past that, I think it is a very interesting book. show less
As noted by other reviewers, this book contains an excellent look at the philosophy of yoga. The authors are able to take yogic principles and apply them to their life stories, and explain how they incorporate the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga into their lives.

As a caution, this book is not for beginners of yoga. Many of the poses in here are for the well-seasoned yoga veterans, and, I would say, that some of the lifestyle practices they suggest are also for the serious yoga show more practitioners. show less
