With wonderful black and white photographs, JP Howard pens poems about her complex lifelong relationship with her beautiful mother, a runway model in the 1940s-1950s, about being a mother, about growing up in Harlem. She writes ghazals, praise poems, zuihitzus and other forms, but because her lines are so passionate and engrossing, you often don't notice the form.
