The coolest thing about this book is the way it is written. The plot is perfectly fine, the setting fairly normal. It is written like a billowing wave or some shit, the effort with which it could parallelize time and sway between two stories was the lowest I've ever seen. I felt like it never dropped the bomb on me that I wanted though. It was very wes-andersoney, characters seemed like they were doing these irrational, beautiful, personable acts because the author wanted to make a show more statement, but I think these characters were just here to bounce around and around, flop around on the pages for a bit. One tidbit that stood out for me was the warmth of the male bonding. Apparently, Indonesians have better friends than I do, something that became evident multiple times through out the book. They love exactly the same as us though. show less
