It's 1845 and Lady Cornbrook is visiting her Aunt Maude in Yorkshire when Maude's companion is Lizie McNab is found dead. Lady C starts to investigate.
I enjoyed the story, and like how these characters are developing. The writing style makes for an easy read.
Interesting take on mystery

I liked the take: an older couple take up detecting. I found the pacing uneven, and rather saggy in the middle. But the mystery itself was decently woven if somewhat heavy-handed in the foreshadowing. I’ll try book two to see if the pacing is repaired and the awkward approach to detecting becomes smoother with practice.
This is a light murder mystery (if that's not a contradiction in terms) set in Lincoln, which I happily found in the Kindle store during my visit to this lovely cathedral city over Easter. The sleuth Penny May, a former TV employee from London who has escaped the rat race by moving to the Lincolnshire village of Glenfield, apparently features in a previous similar series of light mysteries by this author. The plot surrounds the bizarre death of an academic researcher into local myths and show more legends Joseph Ross, whose body has been discovered in the cathedral workshop. As ever there is a range of suspects, and motives including money, wills, affairs and academic rivalry. There are also one or two characters with mental health issues whose role in the plot involves blowing some myths about such problems, which is an interesting dimension. A nice read. show less
Removing themselves from their home and problems Lord and Lady Calaway (Theodore and Adelia) arrive at Mondial Castle. The home of one of their daughters and her husband, John Haveringham, Lord Mondial. But they soon find their rest disturbed by a killing which also inflicts injury on Mondial. The Calaways decide to investigate.
An enjoyable well-written historical mystery with some likeable characters. A very good solid start to the series.
