This article, based on Sinclair’s Honours thesis at Victoria University, examines the involvement women had in playing Australian Rules football in Melbourne in 1947. It explores the extent to which the football community and the wider community accepted women playing football. The role of the print media is also analysed to identify broader community attitudes about women playing the game.
