Kathryn A. Sinclair

This article, based on Sinclair’s Honours thesis at Victoria University, examines the involvement women had in playing Australian Rules football in Melbourne in 1947. It explores the extent to which the football community and the wider community accepted women playing football. The role of the print media is also analysed to identify broader community attitudes about women playing the game.

An examination of the press and film coverage of women’s football in 1947, noting that many games were held as part of a VFL-sponsored round-robin series of matches to raise funds for charity.
