I love everything I've read by these authors, but they take a real chance by making one of the MCs so wounded, flamboyant and occasionally downright mean that he's borderline unsympathetic. Fortunately he is such a strong character and Davis/Stewart always keep you aware of the pain underneath the surface, so you root for him and the good-natured, shy Bear. Anyway, who couldn't love a book with an 80s music loving high-heel wearing MC who tells everyone that Simon LeBon is his father. One of show more those books that breaks your heart and then puts it back together again. The first two-thirds are the strongest, but the entire book is another triumph by this talented duo. show less
Along with the usual - good story, interesting characters - I really enjoyed the unique "voice" in this short. The word choices and resulting sentence structure required me to joyfully pay attention. (All too often author's in the M/M genre rely on the same old cliched phrases, which tends to throw me out of the story and causes much peevishness in my cold, black heart!)
"Holding them both together like this was more than all the dawns and foxes could ever be."
This was the most precious, wonderous, fantastical story!
There are no words to describe the magic and magnetism of this book. This story was everything I could have dreamed of. So many beaming smiles, hands pressed together and to my chest in joy, incoherent noises bursting forth, and tears rolling down my cheeks.
There is the nightmarish past and its effects, the joyful concentration on one thing in show more between, and then the now with a love and life that had never been expected, or even seemingly a possibility. And it is run through with sweet, gentle understanding, and appreciation and care.
You don't want to know details, you just want to pick this up and spend a couple hours in this world of loveliness and synesthesia and a magical reality that makes you want to go out into the world and spread joy with your every glance.
I'm publishing my highlights of this book because they are too gorgeous to hold back.
Please enjoy this heart of hearts. show less

This is wonderful. A story told with such a lovely voice. It's full of love and sweetness without being cheesy. And I love that the whole truth of the situation is not told at the beginning, instead bits and pieces are revealed along the way. Reading this just leaves me feeling warm and good.
