With a rollicking show more rhythm just made for reading aloud, a count-down narrative, from one to ten, that makes use of a repetitive structure that younger children will enjoy, and cute illustrations that are jam-packed with little details that reveal the witch's scheming, Ten Timid Ghosts is an immensely fun little book. Just a little bit spooky - but not too frightening - it would make an entertaining Halloween book (despite the holiday never being mentioned) for the younger set! show less

In my opinion this was a good book but it can be scary depending on the child. Some children may find the book to be great while others may find witches and ghosts scary. I love the writing and how it flowed. It started at ten timid ghosts and flowed very smoothly to no ghosts. Each page always started with the same sentence of “Eight timid ghosts in a haunted house- a witch moved in and wanted them out.” The number changed each page but the sentence stayed the same. The plot showed the show more suspense of what the witch would do to get the next ghost out of the house like seeing a cat or seeing a vampire. This book pushes early readers to learn counting in a fun and positive way around the holidays. It allows kids to learn counting down from ten. Overall it was a great children’s picture book. show less

Around Halloween time, a witch decides to move into a house that already has ten ghosts living inside. She decides she is going to scare them off one at a time. She succeeds in scaring them all off. In the woods, all ten ghosts decided they are going to scare the witch off. So they make a plan, and their plan succeeds! The witch was scared and ran out of the house! This is a great book for children who are learning to count. The book counts backwards as each ghost is scared off.

This is a good example of a picture book/fantasy because it talks about animals that are on a farm but gather supplies to have a party trying to surprise the farmers. Its a fun way to show farm animals and show imaginations of how animals could have parties and fun in the barn. The illustrations are detailed and colorful. There are lots of detail and so much to look at on each page.
