“Red” hates her nickname, however the reader is never given another. More importantly, she hates being in foster care and going to school. So she runs away from it all, only to be corralled by the Sheriff and locked up in the back of a police car. But then the police car with “Red” inside is abducted by aliens, sold to alien collectors, whose gigantic spaceship is then attacked by pirates, then while attempting to escape it crashes in the desert of an unknown planet, leaving show more “Red” and the other abductees—all aliens from her point of view—stranded. How will they survive?
Former animator Pittman’s story is fresh and original. His drawings are precise, colorful and comic, as is the witty dialog between his characters. “Red” is the red headed, science fiction equivalent of Jimmy Gownley's Amelia. show less

Lovely science fiction book which covers what one would think was several small individual plots (missions really), they were all interwoven in one giant plot that makes significantly more sense. Basically you have an illness, a missing colony, weird tidally locked rogue planets, a species one thinks is long since gone but maybe is not, plus large bugs. Also a bit of terrorist, betrayal, murder and other similar things.
Please note that there is a bonus/appendix section in the back of the show more book. I really suspect that this would have made my life easier had I known about that before I started reading it as this was a lot slower than I would have normally preferred. So if I were you, read that first. I don’t think it covered everything though! Haha.
Also did the author have to call the station Musk station? No wonder there was an issue! Don’t encourage him! show less

Wow, my 9-year-old daughter and I loved RED’S PLANET by Eddie Pittman! As soon as my daughter finished it she immediately asked if there would be another one. I knew right then I must read it too.
The main character, Red, has such a spunky, fun personality. She knows what she wants and will not let anyone push her around. Red is a member of a foster family she is not too fond of, and after skipping school, she ends up getting abducted by aliens. Her adventure takes her on a crash landing show more to a planet where every alien there was also abducted, or should I say, collected. Here Red meets many others in her situation and helps them get out of certain predicaments. Fun, fun, fun. Cannot wait for #2!! show less

Red, a quirky, headstrong 10-year-old, longs to live in her own perfect paradise far away from her annoying foster family. But when a UFO mistakenly kidnaps her, Red finds herself farther away than she could have possibly imagined—across the galaxy and aboard an enormous spaceship owned by the Aquilari, an ancient creature with a taste for rare and unusual treasures. Before Red can be discovered as a stowaway, the great ship crashes on a small deserted planet, leaving her marooned with a show more menagerie of misfit aliens. With her newfound friend, a small gray alien named Tawee, Red must find a way to survive the hostile castaways, evade the ravenous wildlife, and contend with Goose, the planet’s grumpy, felinoid custodian. Surely this can’t be the paradise she’s looking for. show less
