Depression has overwhelmed young Charlotte and in this book we witness the struggles of her brother Derrick and their parents as they all live within its shadow.
I think the result is a real achievement, particularly for a first time novelist. The pain and bewilderment of each individual is finely portrayed without losing sight of the need to move the story along. Some reviewers have complained about ambiguity regarding the panther, but I rather think that's the point.
Not an easy read show more emotionally, it will make you think, as a good book should. show less

not sure what I think.
it was very hard to read, and not at all enjoyable, but that's not to say it wasn't a good book. it deals with a lot of tough subject matter, but I found it a bit simplistic.
very unsure about this book. I'll call it 'okay' I guess. 2*s.
edit: changed to 3*s. it's very well written and effective, even if it is horrible and nothing positive happens what so ever.
