Louis-Francois-Armand de Vignerot du Plessis was the son of the grand-nephew of the powerful Cardinal Richelieu. King Louis XIV was his godfather. He was duc de Richelieu and duc de Fronsac from 1715. He was notorious for his debauchery and famous for his achievements in war. He was elected to the Académie française in 1720 and was made a marshal of France in 1748.
