Written for directors of the plays but contains plenty of thought provoking insights into the characters themselves. Death being a central theme, the tone of these plays are tragic. Tragedy for Shakespeare is defined by:
Threats to the natural order by the protagonist who must be destroyed.
The ruination of much of what is good and embodied by the protagonist.
The impression of waste lends poignancy to the downfall of the protagonist.
