*“Death comes for us all… but sometimes, he brings flowers.”* 🌹💀
---
**Synopsis (because wow, what an opening):**
Princess Jessamine has the *worst wedding day in history* — murdered at the altar by her new husband (rude), betrayed by the crown, and tossed straight into the arms of a literal god of death. 💔⚰️

But plot twist — death isn’t the end. 👀
Enter the **Deathless One**, a dark, deliciously dangerous god who’s been waiting centuries to claw his way back to the show more mortal world. Together, they strike a blood-bound deal: her resurrection and her kingdom in exchange for his return. 🩸

Problem? He’s the ultimate shadow daddy™ — powerful, smug, and way too easy to fall for. 😏🔥 As Jessamine fights to reclaim her throne, she’s also battling something far more treacherous: her own growing desire for the god who could end her all over again.
---
**My Thoughts:**
Okay, I *devoured* this. 🍷✨
This book gave everything: gothic atmosphere, betrayal that *hurts*, a vengeful princess with a backbone of steel, and a god of death who radiates chaotic grumpy energy. 🖤

Jessamine? *Iconic.* A woman resurrected by death herself and still making power moves.
The Deathless One? The embodiment of “I could destroy you, but I’d rather worship you.” 😈🔥

Their dynamic is the perfect cocktail of **slow burn tension + vengeance + morally gray flirtation**, and I was *living for it.* The spice was just right — enough to melt your mortal soul without turning it into smut soup. 🌶️💫

And that ending? Let’s just say… I’m already lighting a candle for book two. 🕯️

---

### 🖤 **Tropes & Tantalizing Themes:**

🌞 Grumpy x Sunshine (death god edition)
🔥 Forced Proximity (nothing like sharing a crypt to spark chemistry)
❤️‍🔥 Slow Burn Romance (with eternal consequences)
⚔️ Revenge (served colder than the grave)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
*Darkly romantic, gorgeously written, and dripping in “I’d burn the world for you” energy. The Deathless One owns my soul — and I’m not even mad about it.* 🖤🔥👑

This is the enthralling tale of Mira, a dedicated engineer in the undersea city of Beta, unfolds. Her life turns when she meets Arges, a mythical merman from the undine race. The vivid and immersive world-building by Hamm made me almost feel at home in the ocean's depths despite a deep-seated fear of it. Mira's bravery and quick wit are inspirational, starkly contrasting Arges' fierce yet naive demeanor. Their complex relationship, set against environmental themes, adds a unique twist to the show more monster romance genre. Hamm's captivating storytelling and the blend of humor and fantasy elements make this book stand out, leaving me eagerly awaiting the next installment. show less
Emma Hamm’s second book in The Gravesinger series, THE HEARTLESS ONE, is an impressive sequel. I enjoyed the first book and knew I would enjoy the second book as well. What I didn’t expect was how much I enjoyed it.

THE HEARTLESS ONE ups the ante on Jessamine’s fight for her throne, as we learn more of her ex-fiancé’s plans. Also impacting things is Elric’s newfound corporeality and his continued trauma over his past as he weighs his concerns about forming a new coven with his show more desire/need to help Jessamine. I loved their dynamic. Much of the novel is them exploring their deepening relationship, balancing the two of them against their growing coven. It’s a heartfelt exploration, full of confusion, fear, and doubt. These are two deeply traumatized individuals, after all, and they still do not completely know what the battle for the throne will entail. Fear and doubt would be among the very least of emotions flowing through each of them.

Another reason why I enjoyed THE HEARTLESS ONE so much is that we learn more about the plot for the throne and realize it is a lot more difficult than either Elric or Jessamine thought. We meet new players and are reintroduced to old ones. More importantly, we come to understand how many angry women are in Jessamine’s kingdom, and it is glorious. Women who want power or want to protect themselves from powerful men or want someone else to help bear their burdens; Jessamine courts them all. We only see the beginnings of her efforts in this regard by the end of the novel, but it is one of the elements I am so excited to see come to fruition in the series finale.

THE HEARTLESS ONE is one of those novels that is simply romantic and fun, if you get a kick out of dark magicks, violence, and revenge. Elric is surprisingly deep for a god who cannot die, while Jessamine is a quick study in power games and revenge. The rebuilding of the coven is a great reminder that women are a more powerful force together than apart. With everything we learn towards the end of the book, the series finale is going to be explosive, and I can’t wait!

My Review: Rating (4.5 Blossoms)

Of Werewolves and Curses is my FAVORITE of the series so far. The romance finally truly delivered for me. I am not sure if it felt different because I physically read it over doing the audiobook. But whatever it was, this book just hit so much different than the previous books in the series. Its like the romance truly was the focus on it while also bringing another couple together. They originally go on a mission to save her father in the Summer Court, but it show more only heals the relationship between Freya and her Goblin King. As they discover the truths of what is happening with Leo, the King of the Summer Court who also was a childhood friend of The Goblin King. We see past connections. We see friendships being rebuilt and we see a childhood sweetheart love connection being healed in such a beautiful way. I loved how these two end up being matchmakers of sorts. We see how doubts and fears can keep one from the one that they love deeply. We do see Freya reconnect with her father and it was so endearing and poignant seeing these moments. We also see Freya and her love for the Goblin King really come together so right. I loved the way in which they find their way through truly fighting for each other and that ending was beautiful. The setting was so lush and vivid and comes so alive for the reader. Its one of the best world building series I have seen and I can't wait to explore more of this author because of it. Because I just love how she has driven this series especially in making the setting come alive for the reader without overwhelming them. This does have a riding off into the sunset type of ending and I just wanted to stay in that moment with these two.

Overall I fell so quickly for this one and I can't wait for the finale of their story because I have a feeling it will be epic and I am ready for that!
