- Christiana Benedicta Hebenstreit was the daughter of a medical professor at the University of Leipzig. She received an excellent education in philosophy and history and was proficient in Latin, Greek, English, and French. She married twice, first in 1797 to a landowner and businessman, and after his death in 1800 to Johann Georg Naubert, a merchant.
Benedikte Naubert originally published nearly all her works anonymously. Without her permission, her identity was revealed in an 1817 newspaper article. She was one of the most prolific German women writers of her era, and one of the earliest writers of historical fiction to write in German. Benedikte Naubert also collected and published German folk tales and fairy tales before the Brothers Grimm. - Nationality
