- Short biography
- Joyce Storey was born in Bristol, England. She left school at age 14 and worked in domestic service before finding a job in a corset factory.
Just before the outbreak of World War II, she married a serviceman in the Royal Air Force and moved with him to Grimsby on the northeast coast, where he worked with the Air Sea Rescue Service. Over the next few years, she had four children and worked in a factory at Warmley.
After her husband died in 1979, Joyce joined the Bristol Broadsides writer's workshop. There she was encouraged to publish three volumes of humorous and colorful memoirs, Our Joyce (1987), Joyce's War (1990) and Joyce's Dream: The Post-War Years (1995). The three books were also later published in one volume called The House in South Road (2004). - Nationality
