This is well laid out and full of interesting spots. Each place is given a two-page spread: on the left-hand page is a description of the place, and on the right-hand page is a full-page colour photo with a small overlay giving opening hours, contact information, how to get to the place by public transit, and a useful tip in addition to the information provided on the other page. Often this tip would be about nearby places to get a snack or a meal, which is extremely useful information. The show more book contains several maps at the back showing where each place is located, making this a useful book for planning little days out within Edinburgh.
I felt like a Cool Person because I’ve been to a couple of the places in this book (the Writers’ Museum, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and St Margaret’s Chapel at Edinburgh Castle). Of the other places chronicled, I was most interested in the Edinburgh Printmakers building (how fun would it be to take art classes there?), Mellis Cheesemongers (give me all the cheese!), and the fire services museum. Other places provided inspiration for a little Scotland-related reading plan. Overall, this is a great book and I hope to find other books in the 111 Places series to peruse. show less
