This is the first addition to a new tag here on LT: "books I would want on a deserted island". Better yet if I marooned myself there perhaps I should have read this book first.
So you think you want to be a blue water sailor (making long ocean passages)? Here is everything you need to know in sparse British prose filing 176pp of a tiny book. In nine sections the author covers everything you need to be prepared and stay alive: World climate, Route planning, Ocean navigation, Astro navigation, show more Yacht prep, Heavy weather, Communication, Passage making, and Risks.
I worked on a passage making yacht for over a year and he really does cover it all. To be realistic most experienced costal sailors should treat this book as an outline of all the knowledge they need to acquire to be successful. This not just recommended but required reading for all who are considering a long passage. show less

Excellent book for crew or day skippers to remind you of how to do basics on a yacht. Amongst lots of other things, there is a good MOB section for crew (rather than for skipper).
Great book / manual covering all beat handling situations including anchoring and man overboard, and (especially for me) mooring stern-to in windy conditions.
