Realizing that Thanksgiving is drawing near, and that he is slotted to become the main dish, Turkey goes to great lengths to disguise himself as various other barnyard animals in an attempt to escape his gruesome fate. Unfortunately, every attempt is foiled by the other animals, who recognize him immediately. Will Turkey be able to outwit Farmer Jake, and come up with one last disguise, or has his trouble finally caught up with him...?

An amusing variation on the "turkey (or chicken) attempts show more to escape the barnyard" story-type, Turkey Trouble will keep young children guessing, as they follow along while the meleagrine hero adopts disguise after disguise. The conclusion, in which Turkey dresses up as a pizza deliveryman, will undoubtedly provide a satisfactory surprise ending. Lee Harper's watercolor artwork is well-suited the zany madcap adventures in author Wendi Silvano's text. Recommended to anyone looking for humorous Thanksgiving stories, although parents and adults should be aware that stories such as this might raise larger questions, about the consumption of animals at the holidays. show less
Wonderful use of endpapers. I also love the wordplay that is so good for kids' brains as well as for their funnybones. And nothing beats Homemade Valentine Cards!!

Impulse grab at the library. I see there are a bunch of books featuring Turkey and friends. I guess I've got some catching up to do!
In this halloween fiction, the turkey wanted to get candy just like the other kids! Since Turkey was very good at making costumes he made many costumes and went to each door saying "ding-dong & trick or treat." At each house the owner said "Halloween treats aren't for turkeys." Turkey would get upset and gobble, gobble. All the animals rushed to think of more costumes because the night of Halloween was coming to an end. Soon, Turkey went to the house of Mable Mayberry and she gave him ALL of show more her treats. "Treats are for everyone!" Turkey said. I would love to read this to a class someday for Halloween because it is such a funny and enjoyable book for children and adults! It does discuss how "treats" are only for children and not turkeys, pigs, cows, or anyone else. This shows that Turkey is trying to be someone else that he is not because of what others are saying about Turkey and how he isn't as special as a child so he cannot have treats. I think this teaches a valuable lesson to children to not listen to what others are saying and continue to do what you believe in. Even though this story is just about Halloween treats it comes down to something meaningful because it shows that you do not have to be like everyone else to be able to fit in or be special. show less
Oh gosh how lame. The author picked some place names and a very few icons out of an atlas. Our zoos don't even have polar bears, as pictured in this book. The story is told in sing-song rhyme. I didn't expect much, tbh, but certainly I hoped for more than this!
