Honestly, I'm loving this so far.
This is about a group of girls who live in a small town that is a tourist attraction "thanks" to a famous movie, which means a lot of asshole tourists and not much to do for the people who actually live there. Until the girls find a treasure map that might actually lead to some real pirate treasure.
I love the art style, and I love how visually different the protagonists are, including a black girl (who looks like the pirate from the Descendants tbh) and a fat show more girl. This is only the beginning of the story, so it's a little early to judge yet, but yeah, so far it's great. show less

Damn, but this is a wild ride both in terms of spot-on characters within their timeframe of the late 1960s and in horrors that keep firm footings in both folkloric traditions and historical ghost stories.
This is definitely worth your time if you like a good scareā¦.

Misfit City has this old school movie vibe just like the one the town is famous for. In this first issue we are introduced to the heroines, the villains, and the adventure they are all about to embark upon. There is a lot of diverse personalities and characters with different interests. I liked the cast of characters. They are unlikely friends and heroes. Wilder looks to be the natural leader. She an eco-warrior - an activist - which I think is pretty awesome to see in a character. Dot is show more our reader. She can be seen reading anywhere including while on the job shucking oysters. Karma is the sweet, good-natured, "hippie" girl. She's vegan so I instantly liked her as well as being the sweetest. Macy is the edgy friend who is lead singer in her band. Macy is the one who begins the adventure even if she wants no part of it. I thought this was a great start. The characters are all awesome. The town's history is cool. And the adventure is like that from an old movie like, "The Monster Squad" without the actual monsters but with villains who are coming dangerously close to cheesy. show less
This series starts a few years after the original series and stars Bernice, Emmy's friend. There is a weird music going around in the town and ghosts, good and bad, are appearing out of thin air and Bernice has to investigate the source. The art is much better in this newer series than the original one and the story was just as good as the original with Emmy. Looking forward to reading the next two in the series.
