Blazing hot!

Crank up the air conditioning. This love story is a scorcher!

This was my first time reading an omegaverse tale. I loved how it primarily focused on Micah and Travis and the first few weeks of their relationship. The intense focus made for a smooth and simple introduction to this new universe of alphas and omegas. Just thinking about the sex makes me feel like this book should have one of those safety labels they place on flammable items. That said, this is not a ‘porn without show more plot’ type of book. The emotions of Travis and to a lesser extent Micah intensified the impact of every scene. So much love packed into such a uniquely beautiful book. show less
This is how erotic novels should be written! Roe Horvat has a wonderful talent for writing authentic plots that have great characters. This book is a perfect example of his skill as a writer, and I would happily recommend it!

Marcus and Liam are an established couple. They are happily partnered and have a pretty great life. Liam is a choreographer and works daily with a dancer named Luke. Luke has developed feelings for Marcus... and this is the equation that will result in their lives being show more a bit more complicated than they ever could have imagined.

Luke is mature enough to know that his feelings for Marcus aren't just a crush and Roe Horvat never presents his feelings in that way. Luke and Marcus spend so much time together that the feelings become mutual. There's no infidelity, Marcus and Liam have an open and honest relationship. But there's a remarkable connection between Marcus and Luke and it's heartbreaking to both of them.

Prompted by what he perceives to be an impossible situation, Luke realizes that he needs to move on with his life. He can't do that when he is seeing Marcus every day: it's too much. He's realized that he can't dance forever, no one can and he can't possibly take the assistant choreographer job that Marcus offers him. When he quits... it's a tipping point for all of them.

I absolutely loved the way that Roe writes these characters. Marcus is sweet and open, wearing his emotions on his sleeve. Liam might be a workaholic and insomniac but he adores his partner and is a vulnerable character. Luke is confused and reluctant while being excited and full of longing all at the same time. These characters are complex, authentic and their lives are intertwined before they even really have time to process how to deal with it.

I don't want to ruin too many of the details here with my review, but there are some absolutely lovely moments in this book. I loved how Liam became the pivot upon which the relationship revolved. Marcus and Luke clearly had feelings for one another, and the exploration of how those feelings would or could involved Liam rang really true for me.

There's equality when the three men enter into a closer relationship and yet, there are differences between them. I probably can't put this into words in a way that will make sense. I really appreciated how the three men remain individuals, even as they become closer. The characters retain their differences, they continue to have one on one relationships within the triad... and that's what made it so much more realistic for me.

A wonderful story with a lot of depth and emotion. A pleasure to read!

Melancholic yet beautiful

It took me a while to get into this. Roe Horvat nailed the dreary, grey feeling of being trapped in a transitory space. Frankly, I didn’t like feeling that way. It wasn’t brutal angst, or explosive anger, or some other emotion that makes you burst. It was a depressing pain, invisible on the outside yet practically paralytic on the inside. That said, I felt the pain was worth it.
Giving this 4 stars because Roe Horvat's writing is so beautiful and their characters are so genuine. It's been a while since I felt so involved in a book and cared about what happened to the flawed but realistic characters. However, having said that, I felt that the pacing was strange; I wanted more scenes of Simon and Matej interacting, especially after their reunion, which felt rushed. I didn't understand why some of the scenes were written from secondary characters' POVs; it just took me show more away from the MCs who I wanted to understand better. It might have helped to re-read [b:Dirty Mind|36086082|Dirty Mind|Roe Horvat|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1503279452s/36086082.jpg|57671026], which first introduced Matej as Alex's troubled friend and occasional F-buddy in order to have a little more insight into how the original breakup with Simon affected him, but I still felt like there were unanswered questions and many unresolved issues. Also, while I appreciated the honest portrayal of depression, I was a little uncomfortable with the suggestion that the answer to all of Simon's problems was Matej and the anti-depressants he was prescribed to help his dysthymia were no longer necessary.

I doubt that Horvat is planning on a sequel but I would love to read one that starts with this book's HFN ending and shows the two men building a new, healthier relationship together. In a short time I have become a big fan of this author, and my frustrations are really a tribute to the high expectations I have of their work.
