Review: The Maine Event by Alex Wilson.

When trying to fall asleep a short story might help. This novella was interesting to me because Maine is where I’m living. There is action, suspense and a wee amount of romance is this story. There were many flaws as, spelling and grammar, but the action held my interest.

The author starts off with Dana’s character by introducing her as a history researcher seeking information on Maine’s environment, economics, and some history of Maine’s people show more and places of interest.

Than Josh is introduced into the story as an ex-Marine and reporter ending up in Maine when he lost his job at the L.A. Times and his marriage fell apart. He never really had much happiness growing up in an abusive home and then signing up for the Marines at a very young age. Josh soon learns there is a serious drug problem in Maine coming from Canada. Josh is asked by an old friend to keep an eye out for anything suspicious. With his reporter’s background he instantly wanted to investigate the issue. Meanwhile a few more people where getting involved and that is how Josh met Dana. They seemed to hit it off right away and felt comfortable working together because of their backgrounds. Dana’s research skills about Maine and Josh’s military experience made them a good team.

The story was short so I will say the subject matter is about drugs. The story was also educating and interesting but the author could have spent a little more time on the plot. What I didn’t like was the author never came out and expressed why these two people came to Maine in the first place….

An investigative reporter and a historian team up to find out what is happening in their little bit of Maine. Unfortunately, the story is told as though one were listing nuts and bolts in a journal. It lacks tension and action; it is too monotone for me to rate better than 2.5 stars.
