Eloise “Lou” Hansen is graduating from Columbia University summa cum laude, and she's ready to conquer the world. Just a few minor problems: she has no job, no prospects, and she’s moving back into her childhood bedroom. Lou is grimly determined to stick to a rigorous schedule to get a job and get out of her parents’ house. Shelly “Mama Shell” Hansen, on the other hand, is ecstatic, and just as determined to keep her at home. Who else will help her hide her latest binge-shopping show more purchases from her husband, go to SoulCycle with her, and hold her hand during Botox shots? show less
I gave this book 3 stars for the author's writing style, not the content.
The characters all annoyed the ever living shit out of me. I hate rich pretentious people. I knew going in- that this wasn't my cuppa tea, but I needed something easy peasy to breeze thru. I wanted a brain cleanser, but instead this made me feel shallow as I know people exist like this. I hate social media and this was the main content of this novel. Fake shallow people disgust me. This is no fault of the author that I show more didn't enjoy the content, I simply tortured myself, perhaps intentionally as I am somewhat of a masochist. show less
Although this book is "fiction" if you read the author's bio it seems very autobiographical down to the two pugs that the family owns. The central theme is that the main character (Lou) who just graduated from college moves back home while transitioning to be on her own. Enter a domineering mom who seems to have opinions on everything her daughter does. The novel is written with humor but is very pointed. toward mom. The central issue is that Lou gets a boyfriend that she knows mom will not show more approve of.and she keeps postponing his meeting her parents. A fun easy read. show less
I really wanted to like this book. The humour was the type I read, the concept so real but with so much potential. But due to careless issues I just couldn't.

Firstly, all the characters are so "Californian". I don't really know if this is enjoyable for Californians but after a few jokes it got redundant for me. There are only so many jokes you can make about algae shots and plastic surgery.

The Natasha mini plot line was so gross. That's literally it. It tried to bring some... depth? I show more don't know. But it was literally what is wrong with the world exemplified through like a Californian. I hated it beyond words. Completely unnecessary.

Other than that, the story line was engaging and the dialogue was cute. I feel like it could have been shorter over all though.
