This book is a collaborative effort of fifteen different artists showcasing their love of their childhood homes through drawings, paintings, and mixed media pieces. The cultural diversity of the illustrators is reflected in their work not only by the subjects they depict but also in their medium and style; readers will prefer some over others. One advantage to having so much talent in one book is how connected the illustrators feel to their creations; so much detail is dedicated to places show more not often depicted in children’s literature. In my opinion, the downside of this group project is that the accompanying stories were created by illustrators, not authors. In their short autobiographical sketches explaining the inspiration behind their work, some are more detailed and engaging than others. The lack of connection among the writing doesn't bother me as much as the variety of effort. show less
