I liked this book better than I thought I would. It had lots of great descriptions about mountain climbing and skiing and the beautiful scenery in the Rocky Mountains. The story was fairly interesting but the writing was uneven. One peeve is the misspelling of the word "surprise" which they spelled "surprize" all the way through.

The story is about two mountain climbers who are close by when a small plane crashes. The pilot is killed in the crash but the passenger survives but is comatose. show more The climbers decide to take him down the mountain because a storm is coming. As they check through the plane they come across a suitcase which has about 15 kilos of cocaine inside. The passenger was smuggling the cocaine from Peru into the USA through Canada but an LA cop was on to his scheme. The RCMP were shadowing the plane which took off from Prince Rupert but the pilot noticed them and pulled into the storm to evade them. The two rescuers agree to carry the cocaine through the border in return for $50,000. All goes smoothly, they get their money and decide to mountain climb in Yosemite Park to celebrate. After a magnificent 4 day climb they are approached by the flunky of drug dealer who received the cocaine. This flunky has decided he wants the 50 grand for himself and threatens to break their knee-caps if they don't tell him where it is. In the ensuing melee one of the climbers is killed and the other (Alex) manages to get the gun but the flunky gets away. However, Alex knows he's living on borrowed time and he has to figure a way to survive and hide. The ending leaves you hanging as to whether he is successful in this. This book is worth the read, especially if you like the Rocky Mountain area. show less
