I love this series, but I did find this book a little lacking from the first one. I enjoyed the way it started, but it seemed very rushed to get the characters together after they get to Wonderland, and the ending was much better. All in all though, it was still a good read and I can't wait to read the next one!
This book was a very quick read and started out great. I loved the idea of Alice being the Red Queen (not a spoiler, it's the first thing from the prologue) and the dark, torn apart Wonderland Clara finds. I was intrigued. However, I feel it hyped me for something a lot darker than it actually was.
The things I liked:
- about the first half of the book.
- Alice as the bad guy felt cleverand the flashback with the chipmunk and the red paint was awesome .
- The characters and their show more introductions. Specially, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, they were more in tone with the dark Wonderland I liked.
My main complaints are:
- It didn't deliver on the horror Wonderland it promised (not that I was expecting a horror book, but there were some hints of a dark world I would have loved to explore more, like the twins!)
- The Hatter says he's broken and mad, but his actions didn't show it at all. I wish the Hatter from the cover would have shown up to play.
- I wish Clara and the Hatter would have had more time to get to know each other, that way, when he confesses she's "his light" it would have made more sense. They are destined together, but if you are going to insist it isn't insta-love, develop the relationship. This bothered me because the first half of the book started developing it. Clara felt attracted to him, but it wasn't love and they flirted and just, you know, got to know each other. Then the ball drops and suddenly they are super in love. It felt like I missed a couple of chapters with more development.
-She also says she falls in love with him at the very moment he confesses, seriously? He had sweet moments that I believe would have made much more sense for her to feel in love for the first time.
-They kill the bad guy together and even though Clara's a lawyer and not that kind of badass, it doesn't seem to affect her at all.
I don't usually have or voice that many complaints about a book but I loved the premise and I thought it had a lot of potential. I hope the second book explores more the dark themes. show less

So Good!
I can’t believe I forgot to review this!
This book is so amazing! I love how well written and thought out the world and plot lines are. I simply adore Hatter and all his craziness, and that he was actually crazy, it was fantastic. I feel like Clara is an amazingly strong MC and she just rolled with the punches (which is so much better than unnecessary angst). I can’t wait for White (and of course my favorite Cheshire ❤️)

I loved this book. I got emotional in the beginning, that is a lot of trauma for someone to go through with no one there to support you. Fable is a very strong person to go through that and still keep going. I loved that she found a way to heal herself. I am happy she decided to go to Circle Bee and find her men, although I really didn't like Colt. I'm just glad everything works out in the end.
