Grimm, Brothers. Rapunzel and other Magic Fairy Tales.Selected and illustrated by Henriette Sauvant. London: Egmont, 2006.
In this version of Rapunzel the illustrations are surreal and have the look of a dream. In each drawing there is an object or person that is huge in comparison to Rapunzel. I think it's the illustrator's way of making Rapunzel seem small and vulnerable. Also, this version has the prince and Rapunzel agree to be married and towards the end, when the prince loses his sight, show more he finds Rapunzel with their young twins. Besides that, the rest of the story follows the traditional tale. The witch is mad that someone took her greens and demands the newborn as payment. There is a lot of text and I think this version would be more appropriate for a bedtime story since there are only a few illustrations. Age group: 6-10/ also read by an adult to smaller children. show less
