Victoria's step mother, Tiffany, walked into her room as her father was trying to force himself on her. Stating that it was the other way around, that Victoria was trying to seduce him, he kicked her out of the house. Tiffany believed him. Thus starts Victoria's life in the foster care system in Silver Valley, NV, several hours away from her home in Reno.

Victoria refuses to tell authorities what really happened because she wanted to protect her father, promising her mother, who died of show more cancer, that she would take care of her father...even though it's the parent's job to take care of the children.

Victoria keeps her foster home life a secret from the small town high school she attends, until she can't any more.

The Quiet You Carry is a telling story about life as a foster child, the life of a teenager being abused by a person of authority, a person who is supposed to care for you and about you. While it's not a gritty book, it certainly tells the tale well. A recommended read.

Ri's been raised by her grandma after the death of her grandfather and the cutting off of parental rights of her mother. Ri is feeling a longing to connect to her culture, her grandparents came to the US from Mexico, but Ri has been raised without knowing Spanish, been push toward white friends, and assimilating into mainstream culture. The whole book is a bit of an awakening for Ri and by association all the people around her. She drops French and starts Spanish class. She goes on a search show more for her absent mother. She starts becoming aware of the microaggressions all around her, some coming from her best friend Brittany. There are some really hard emotional conversations late in the book that characters stay present for and push through. Would work for grades 8+. show less
* I got this for a for review from the publisher*

I really did loved this sequel novel. I really enjoyed that I tackled harder topics like the aftermath of abuse and its effects on your relationships and also just your life. I also like this book tackled the larger topic of the me too movement. It was sometimes hard to be in victoria head at points but I really liked how this book was set in college. I read so few YA Novels that have that setting. It was read that read quite fast. I liked the show more how it took victoria two books but she has created her own found family. I def like the insight to what happens to foster care kids during college. Such a great read. show less
