The story follows a military (Coast Guard) guy when the world shifts, electric power stops working and magic gets available. The first part is kinda claustrophobic as he is in a bunker type of big building and has to find his way in the pitch dark against monsters.
The very first chapter is a bit rough as you get way too much stats and no clue about it (but well - in that you are on par with the hero - just no fun to read that.) After that it is well written with a good hand on action scenes show more and mood.
Way to dark for my taste. Maybe for people who also like zombie stuff. (no "real" zombies here but the amount of despair is as big, comrades have a great mortality, no breaks for the hero.
Give it 3 stars because there is nothing wrong with the book and i don't want to destroy its overall rating.
But for my personal taste it is a one star - wouldn't read another one of this. I really like to be my books a bit more lighthearted than this.
So - if you like action heavy books where the hero is tested every second and has nearly no break while loosing his comrades around him -> this is your book.
If you are following my reading list and look for a book that is in sync with my personal taste in books - not a book for you. show less

Suffers from a lack of proper tension. Fights are to easy for the protagonist, and the endless notification menus are just a bore with how many abilities he's given.
Also has minor continuity errors throughout.
