Note: I received access to read this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This comic wants to say sooooo many things. It wants to show you how beautiful a rainbow is but ends up scribbling a mess with every crayon.
It gets extremely bogged down in details that are incongruent with other details, and it results in absolutely nonsensical worldbuilding. Difficult things that our generation struggle with are completely figured out, and yet other things, like basic record show more keeping, arent, inexplicably.
The characters seem to drastically change personalities from one panel to the next and strongly held ideas seem to have the same short expiration dates. What at first appear as progressive views on gender fluidity and identity end up being meaningless and regressive when-

Spoiler
- the dinosaur decides to share an intimate moment with the protagonist, by removing the dinosaur suit, (what we are led to believe is akin to what this person's gender identity, or their "real self" is). But the moment is only intimate when the "real self" is removed?
End Spoiler

This isn't just bad. It's negligent and harmful. Really disappointed in this. show less

On the morning of January 10, 2016, when Samuel hears the news of David Boise’s death, it stops him in his tracks. It also stops him in time, as the world carries on around him until he comes to in to the year 200,016. While the world around him seems to have become an inclusive utopia of the future, he struggles to find a place for himself in this new world of biotech and global acceptance. Through dreams and visions of the late, great David Bowie and the love and stability of his show more newfound family, Samuel may just discover he’s exactly where he belongs now.
A little all-over-the-place at times, the ideologies that Marco Bucci introduces really does speak of a better society through acceptance and working for the betterment of everyone, not just yourself. Riccardo Atzeni’s watercolor illustrations are beautifully rendered and vibrant. The queer positive attitude of the story is heartening, while still tackling issues of body dysmorphia, consent, and forms of abuse. A surprisingly touching, enjoyable story and tribute to David Bowie.
