About the Author

Clare Shaw writes to speak to the world. But first and foremost she speaks directly to the reader, through words which shock, engage, disturb and delight. This is a book which - in its content and its impact - sets out to establish and to challenge the limits of language. Exploring with unflinching show more focus and intent some of her darkest territory yet - but returning, as always, to the light - she offers us a furious but ultimately hopeful exploration of the world as she lives it. show less

This is simultaneously an emotionally draining and emotionally restorative collection of poems. Although it deals with themes of separation, bereavement and loss, love and its power to transcend pain and trauma is the central thread that runs through.
Poetry is always a bit of a roll of the dice, and I've got snake-eyes a couple of times recently, but Shaw came up sixes, full of empathy, humanity and compassion. I'll be looking up their earlier collections.
