This series is so utterly sweet and wholesome it should cause cavities all around. Even through the adorable slice of life moments, we get slithers of Kanda’s past. In this volume, he has a panic attack when an event triggers him. The world also expands a bit more as a new character gets added.

A Man & His Cat is such a mood pick-upper. After reading this, you leave feeling light and fluffy like you’re Fukumaru.

In the long run I don't think I will be able to endure the cutesy meow puns that appear in almost every single thought bubble of the cat, but the quiet dignity and sadness and occasional awkwardness of the man who has adopted him carried me past that issue this time around.

A kitten lives unwanted and unloved in a pet shop. His price drops every day and no one spares him a glance unless it’s to call him names. Imagine his surprise when an older gentleman comes into the store and takes him home! Come follow the cat’s and his new human’s life as they start off on this new adventure together.

First off - I want to know who is calling Fukumaru ugly, because I will fight them. He is adorable and I fell in love with him on the first page and I am so glad his Dad show more found him.

Secondly, this story will give you all the feels. Not only has this cat been alone for so long, but his Dad is needing his own healing (though it hasn’t been said outright, you make the connection what he needs help healing from pretty quickly).

This story is about longing, and hope, but most of all, it’s about love.

If you have a soft spot for cats, this manga is definitely for you. show less

"Is this a cat manga . . . or a music manga?" one of the characters asks in the author's afterword. And I gotta say, I'm here for the lives of the musicians: their struggles, successes, and rivalries. The cats could all be sent off to live on a farm in the country next volume, and I'd happily bid them farewell. Go on, and take "mew-r" dumb puns with "mew." (And yes, that's the exact level of humor we're being offered. See the chapter titles below for more. Ugh.)
