I really enjoyed this legal thriller, #2 in the Cass Leary series. I suspected the writing might improve in this second installment and it did. I listened to the audio edition and it was fast-paced, with good characters and a suspenseful plot. I listened almost straight through in one day! A page turner!

A good legal thriller. A young defense attorney returns to her hometown and takes on a case involving the murder of a town icon. Against the wishes of almost the entire community, the attorney champions the dependent by revealing some ugly truths. For me, the plot was a little slow paced and there were transitions from present to past which felt somewhat choppy, or awkward. I liked the characters and will likely read the next book in the series. Not bad at all.

The plot of this installment of the Cass Leary series seemed a bit simplistic. I will be interested to see if there is continued development of the characters as the series continues. I like a combination of good characters and a complex crime to resolve. I am still interested in following the series.
