Short biography
George Mather Richards (1880-1958) was an American artist and book illustrator. Born in Darien, Connecticut, into a family of distinguished scholars and educators, he was educated at Corcoran Art School in Washington, D.C., Williams College (B.A.), and The Chase School in New York City. He met his wife, fellow artist Gertrude Lundborg, while at art school.

Richards worked as the art director at Everybody's Magazine in New York, before leaving in 1914 to become a freelance illustrator. He illustrated many books for Macmillan, and is also remembered as the creator of the World War I poster, "Oh, Boy! That's the Girl!," which was quite well known at the time. He lived and worked for many years in New York, and retired to Winter Park, Florida, dying in 1958.
