Good Money: Birmingham Button Makers, the Royal Mint, and the Beginnings of Modern Coinage, 1775–1821 by George Anthony Selgin
Lucidly tells the story of how private enterprise and technological innovation addressed Britain's coin shortage in the late1700s. A must read for anyone interested is copper coinage in general and "Conder" tokens in particular. An eye opening numismatic publication.
Good Money: Birmingham Button Makers, the Royal Mint, and the Beginnings of Modern Coinage, 1775-1821 by George Anthony Selgin
Excellent text, but US bias, sparse good c and b/w illustrations on separate plates, very good bibliography, index
