This book begins with a gruesome crime. A 911 call comes into the Orange Beach, Alabama police department, made by nine year old Anna Morrison. Her parents, as well as her twin brothers have been brutally murdered and she has been raped, strangled and left for dead. When lead Detective Hank Jordan arrives he is shocked at the blood bath inside the Morrison's home. The only clue left behind is Tammy Morrison's computer. Her office has been torn apart and empty file folders left scattered show more everywhere. Tammy was running a successful rental business, primarily for the Czech immigrants that make their living working in the tourist industry in Orange Beach.

Meanwhile Suzanna Novacek wakes up beaten and bruised by her husband, Yuraslav, who is missing, along with all her money. When Hank gets the results of the DNA tests and fingerprints found in the Morrison home it confirms Suzanna's husband is the rapist. As Hank continues his investigation he opens up network of crime and destruction by a local Russian thug that has gone undetected for years.

The story itself moves fairly quickly and was better than I originally thought when I started it. I found the rape of a child too disturbing and quickly skimmed over that part. Fortunately the description was brief and not dwelled on. I read it on my Kindle and found some annoying formatting errors that were sloppy. There are two other books in this series but it's unlikely I would read them. That main character, Hank, just didn't come alive for me.
