Seems to plant the seeds for the great stories I always hear are contained in this run of the Squad, but some clunky moments get in the way of the scaffolding here. Can't wait to see how the characters develop.
I have always loved this series, and John Ostrander did amazing work on it. It's a great mix of characters and has an edge to it without going over the line into totally grim stories filled with simple psychopaths. Most of these characters have depth that isn't normally found in mainstream comics.
First couple of stories in this series about a group of people with nothing to lose bribed by the government with lessened sentences. There's a lot of dated stuff but most of it is quite good stories, some of the background stresses are a bit much but I liked it.
Summary:
Amanda Waller wants to reactivate Suicide Squad even though it has had problems in the past with members. An increase in crime by metahumans means Waller needs to sell the importance of the Task Force X to the President. Will the President sign off on Task Force X and can its members be kept under control.
Characters:
Amanda Waller, director of Task Force X
Col. Rick Flag, leader of the Suicide Squad
Metahumans:
Capt. Boomerang, Bronze Tiger, Deadshot, Nightshade, The Enchantess, and show more many more.
Final Thoughts:
I love the appearance of Vicki Vale and The Penguin. Not as action packed as the other Volumes. Volume 1 is really about the origin of the suicide squad. Best scene of Volume ! was when Waller punched Tolliver right in the face. That had to feel good. show less
