I'm tempted to call this a memoir rather than fiction, but while the author said that she'd called upon her own memories of her childhood and her Halmoni (grandmother), the character is not her. This was a very moving story of loss as experienced through the eyes of a girl already struggling with feeling out of place--not quite American enough, not quite Korean enough. When her Halmoni dies, not only does she feel a sense of loss over the actual death, but the loss of familial roots show more contributes to her experiencing an even greater sense of not belonging anywhere. Everyone around Yuna has memories and a feeling of connection; her own lack of such is represented by a perception that she's slowly turning to thin paper.

I've tried to fold paper stars the way Yuna does throughout the book; it's really quite difficult. The jars of tiny colorful stars are so pretty among the other illustrations, complementing the art and keeping it from feeling too dark.

Love this series! This time, our fearless kitties are looking for the Orb of the present and their two friends who where kidnapped. Doubt seeps in when their friends are told by other animals that they won't be saved. Cute graphics and wonderful story.
So happy the next book came out in the series! This time our fearless kittens find a staff of knowledge. However, the orbs on the staff disappear into the real world and now the cats have to find the orbs before all the magic seeps through to the real world! Love the illustrations and of course the story is super cute! Ending is left wide open for book number 5! Yay!
My new favorite series! This time Squash and Ginny travel to another magical land to find the Goblet of Infinity and as usual along the way they make new friends. But are all of them truly friends? Great story and awesome illustrations!
