The Mass of Brother Michel. Michael Kent. 1942, reprinted 1917. What a beautiful little Catholic novel! It is the story of a love between a handsome young man and a beautiful woman that begins in happiness, continues through tragedy, misery and pain and turns into the greatest love of all: that between man and God. It takes place in sixteenth century France during the Reformation and provides a detailed picture of rural France at that time. In reality it is more of a treatise on the beliefs show more of the Church versus the claims of the Reformists and a paean to the mass than a novel. It could almost be used as a devotional book and would be a great one to read during Adoration. show less
