Despite this being the textbook for the Open University T206 course, I didn't read it as an OU student. I was lent the book by one of the members of our Transition Town group as I've got an interest in energy systems and renewables.
The book is a good solid primer detailing how current power generation systems work, their history of development and some brief pointers to future work. As the edition I read came out in 2003 some of the future predictions are rapidly coming to reality (things show more like the spread and popularization of electric vehicles, and the more widespread deployment of solar and wind generation), but the basic information isn't going to change so its likely to be a useful book for people interested in sustainability of energy supplies for some years to come.
The book has very clear text and some well thought out diagrams and photographs to aid understanding. There are some very basic equations introduced but nothing that should phase many people. show less
