This book was fantastic--a perfect mix of background information and how-to's. This excellent volume is a very fast read, and it's divided into sections by decade, making it easy to see how one fashion or tradition led into another. In addition to full-color photos showing the different projects, Ms. Waggoner also offers clear directions, suggestions for other quick ways to imitate a specific decade, a brief overview of the factors that contributed to each decade's unique characteristics and show more celebrations, and the distinctive approach to the holidays that each separate era embraced. Although I have not yet tried the projects, they seem simple and straightforward even for noncrafty people. Covers the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50 s, and 60s. Wonderful book for anyone with an interest in vintage Christmas. show less
This was fun- a terribly opinionated book generally is! Lots of interesting facts about prohibition plus gorgeous old graphics plus snarky comments in the recipes. F'rinstance, regarding something called a Pegu Club cocktail:

"One of the chief, if unsung, achievements of the British colonial era was putting good gin into the hands of people who knew how to use it."

Lots of fun.
A totally fun book - great for family reminiscing about long-ago christmases, it contains lists and pictures, and information about dolls, trains, board games, riding toys, doll houses, etc. A treasure to be pulled out every year over Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
With lots of vintage ads and photos, this book looks at the history of classic cocktails. While there aren't lots of recipes, the variety of spin-offs related to the original Rickey or Sour, and the various Martini methods, are interesting.
