Children's author and artist Patricia Casey offers a picture-book examination of a day in the life of Wood Green Animal Shelter (now known as 'Wood Green: The Animals Charity'), a well-known and long-established animal care center in London. Beginning at quarter to eight in the morning, when staff (and many of their companion animals!) arrive on the site, through the many activities of their busy day - feeding all the kitties in the cat sanctuary, seeing the animals brought in to the clinic show more - the book concludes as they leave, tired but happy, for the evening.
With colorful collage art that mixes photographs of actual people and animals from the shelter, and painted elements depicting the same - I loved the pictures of all the kitties, with their names underneath! - this is a visually rich book. It is also an engaging one, textually, and will be particularly interesting for young animal lovers. For my part, I was reminded of my long-time desire to volunteer at an animal shelter, something I have not hitherto been able to do, for transportation reasons. I am now however (as of last week!) a driver, and plan to look into it! A lovely little book, about a lovely place, One Day at Wood Green Animal Shelter is a book I would recommend to young animal lovers, particularly those interested in shelters, and the work that goes on there. show less

Nice, but nothing special if you already have simple books about cats. Which you probably do.
