Short biography
An unapologetic book-huffer and devourer-of-stories, Vera Valentine has carried on a torrid love affair with the written word for nearly all of her 41 years. Grown in the diner-laden wilds of the New Jersey Pine Barrens and transplanted to North Carolina, she lives with her husband, eight cats, and two dogs, most of whom are house trained. An avid fan of the Paranormal Why Choose / Polyam genre, she tossed her author hat into the ring in September of 2021 and never looked back.

A cheerfully chaotic capybara, Vera can usually be found spending too much time on social media, chilling with fellow author friends, or scribbling down plot bunny ideas in her trusty paper sidekick, the Bad Idea Book™.

This was my first sentient object smut and I absolutely LOVED it! It was really cool to learn about the backstory of how the door came to be (I'm a big fan of Greek mythology) and the act of procreation that resulted in said door lol. The story itself is wonderful, we have a cinnamon roll MMC who's been watching over FMC and all the warm, fuzzy "good door" vibes. It's the right amount of spice and plot, where we do get all the schmexy goodness and a solid storytelling as well. Overall, I show more would recommend this to all first-time sentient smut reader and I'm excited to read more of Vera's work! show less
There's nothing like ending a great reading year with a little bit of smut. And what bizarre smut this was. A door (yes a door) starts to fall for the woman that lives in the apartment he guards. He starts to really fall for her and watches her every move. Soon he realizes that the landlord is up to no good and he wants to protect her from his evil advances. But how can he do that when he can't move on his own? One wild dream later and Tana is lubing up the doorknob (OW!). Is this how he can show more protect her? Wild and ridiculous. Though honestly.... I could have done with a little more door sex, lol. show less
What you'll get:
Monsters - kind off? They're tree shifters
Lumbersexual
Magic
Bisexual rep

Setting: Vermont

This was the most romantic book about a woman banging a couple of murderous trees that I've ever read. They were held under a curse by Mila's estranged husband until his "completely accidental" death forces her up to Vermont to learn a whole lot about syrup very quickly or she'll be completely broke. I would definitely say she learned how to tap for syrup.
So look, I'm down with weird shifters. Let's go. Balloon shifters? Blow it up.

This book made me cackle and then the storytelling completely fell off at the end. HOW did their abusive creator know where to find them after months/years(?) of not knowing where they were. How did Poppy know how to get rid of her? Tell me why and give me like another hour of the audiobook where they squeak balloons in the background during the spicy scenes.
