I set this aside at 35% because I'm bored.

Great cover, clever title. promising premise, and an intriguing opening chapter told from the cat's point of view. I even enjoyed the book club discussions of the themes of 'The Great Gatsby'. The mystery was pedestrian but good enough for a Cozy.

So why aren't I enthusing about how much fun this book was?

For me, the book was spoiled by Jade, the librarian who, unfortunately, is the main character. I wish the rest of the book had been written from show more the cat's point of view, as he seems much brighter than Jade. I waded through to the 35% mark, waiting for the cat to take another turn, but it hasn't happened yet, and I'm bored of listening to Jade prattle on. For an educated woman in her twenties, she's so naive that I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to convince myself to think of her as real.

So, I'm done with this book and this series. show less

This was free on Amazon when I downloaded it. I've liked other mysteries that involved cats, so I had high hopes.

There are a few chapters that are from the cat's point of view, including the first chapter. I do appreciate the way that the author shapes the cat's thoughts, but having the first chapter be in the cat's point of view was a bit confusing to me.

I liked it, but I didn't love it. Which is to say that if a later book in show more the series crossed my path free or at a deeply discounted price, I'd probably read it, but it's not a series that I'm actively seeking out the next book. show less

The Great Catsby (A NOLA Tail Mystery Book 1) by B.K. Baxter

An original cozy murder mystery told from two points of view, that of Jade and her lovable cat. With a classic who-done-it style, plenty of suspects, twists and turns, I was hooked from the first page. Overall I found The Great Catsby very enjoyable and feel those who love (cozy) murder/mysteries will enjoy it as well.
